All :)
Wish List stuff...
* Separate key-frames for movement/rotation/scaling, or even better,
separate key-frames for x movement, y movement, z movement, heading, pitch,
bank...
* Control on spot light cone angle from the layout, maybe by adjusting
its size.
* Double click to select objects in layout.

I think I could wait 10 secs to see the texture on a sphere/object, if the
alternative is to render a test frame. Wouldn't you?
Of course this procedure should be multi-tasking, so when I see I got it
wrong I could change parameters instantly and not wait for it to finish
rendering.

Create a spotlight. Target it to the object in question, choose 'light
view', and voila! You have a custom made camera which can be moved freely
around the scene without affecting anything, and you can even change the
zoom factor by changing the spot cone angle! Make sure you delete it when
you're done or set its intensity to 0, so it truly doesn't affect anything.
This trick can also be applied to create 'object view'. Simply parent the
light to the object, and position it at the objects 'eye'. Head for a
character, cockpit for an airplane, god-knows-where for a floopy disk :)
